Milan along the Canals

Hi everyone, today we will visit Milan along the canals!

One of the most fascinating area of Milan is for sure the “Navigli” district. Here you can see the historical canals of Milan, called indeed navigli in italian. Perhaps not everyone knows that Milan was crossed by a system of five navigable canals. Thanks to that, Milan had the possibility to be directly connected with Switzerland and the northern Europe on one side and with the Mediterranean sea on the other. They had been used until the Sixties for material transportation. Even the materials for the construction of Duomo, the amazing cathedral of Milan, had been passed from here! Nowadays, two of them, Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese, are lined on both sides with restaurants and pubs. The canals are a wonderful place to enjoy Milan nightlife!
