The Castle of the Moors – Sintra, Portugal

The Castle of the Moors, Sintra, Portugal

The Castle of the Moors, in the municipality of Sintra, is one of the most fascinating place in Portugal.

Sintra is located about 25 km northwest of Lisbon. Sintra is an amazing place: UNESCO world heritage site, it is a nostalgic and mysterious place full of history. It was defined by Lord Byron as an Eden:

Cintra’s glorious Eden intervenes in variegated maze of mount and glen”

In this charming place there’s the Castle of the Moors. The Castle of the Moors is medieval castle on the hilltop nearby Sintra.

To reach the Castle of the Moors, we decide to have a walk  from Sintra up to the summit of the hill. It was quite a longer walk than actually expected! However, it was an amazing experience, hiking in the middle of the wood and discovering from time to time some ruins of the Castle of the Moors, like  walls and towers.

Once reached the top of the hill, you can access the Castle of the Moors paying a ticket. The visit surely is worth it!

You can have the chance to walk along the castle walls with a breathtaking view of Sintra. The Castle of the Moors was a military military outpost built by the Moors in the 8th and 9th centuries. The walls on the hilltops are 450 meters long across a lush vegetation.

Visiting Sintra and the Castle of the Moors is a great adventure! Don’t miss it! Have a look at our gallery and start to plan your next travel 🙂

I would love to make a trip out to the castle of the moors. There is just something magical and mysterious about those castles. Maybe a little haunted too, but a lot of fun.
